BIOGRAPHY OF RON KUNTZ

A natural progression from his high school interest in photography led Ron Kuntz to his current status as one of the most renowned photographers in his illustrious career with United Press International (UPI) in January of 1953.

Over fifty years behind the camera he covered major stories in Ohio, Sam Sheppard trial, Kent State University shooting, and presidents from Eisenhower to the present. Major sporting events, World Series, Super Bowls, PGA and U.S. Open golf tournaments, ten Olympic games, Munich-72; Montreal-76; Moscow-80; Los Angeles-84 Seoul-88; Barcelona-92; Atlanta-96; Sydney-2000, including two winter games, Lake Placid-80 and Calgary-88. In 1974, covered the Rumble in the Jungle, the Ali-Foreman championship fight in Kinshasa, Zaire. The World Cup Soccer Championship in Argentina-1978, and the Pam Am Games in Venezuela-1983.

Been on every continent of the world. While serving in the Army, spent four months on Greenland’s ice cap, six hundred miles from the North Pole, taking pictures of Camp Century, a camp to be run by atomic power. On November 17 th, 1986, was one of four media persons selected to go to the South Pole.

Have won many national and International awards, nominated for four Pulitzer Prizes. Inducted into his high school Hall of Fame in 1987. Given the Distinguished Service Award from the Society of Professional Journalists. Received the Robert S. Carson award given for outstanding contribution to photojournalism. In 2006 was inducted into The Press Club of Cleveland Hall of Fame. Was recognized before the House of Representatives by congressman Dennis Kucinich for his accomplishments.

With over three decades of service as a photographer with the Bill Glass (former all-pro defensive end of the Cleveland Browns) Prison Ministry. Ron has participated in 300 prison weekends, and has been in around 2,000 prisons, throughout the United States, Lima, Peru, Cape Town, South Africa, Recife, Brazil, Mexico and Puerto Rico.

Ron resides in North Olmsted, Ohio with his wife Nancy and son. Josh. They have four other children, Ronnie, John, Stephen and Rebeccah.
